IDAL CONVENTION BROCHURE

EDUCATION AWARENESS

Pamela Hernandez, Board Member, Education Liaison

Thank you to all the spectacular instructors who submitted classes and were selected for the 25th International Decorative Artisans League Convention!  The Education Committee selected 60 classes in all decorative painting disciplines at all skill levels.  IDAL offers 3 ½ days of classes guaranteed to enhance your business portfolio from traditional to new techniques, with use of a vast assortment of products - all in one place!.

Hands-on classes include: stenciling, murals, air-brushing, trompe l’oeil, concrete, decorative painting, faux finishing, textures, gilding, color matching, and more.  Drying racks will be available for classes that produce numerous sample boards.  Remember to bring skirt hangers to transport your boards from the classroom to your hotel room.

Instructor biographies are listed on the left side of this IDAL website page if you want to learn more about an instructor/class.  Email the instructor if you have questions about their class/supplies.  Be sure to visit their websites while you look forward to their classes.

Book your flight, find a roommate to share expenses (to afford an extra class!) and we’ll see you in Portland, Oregon!

ADDITIONAL CLASS SUPPLIES ARE LISTED UNDER EACH CLASS.
These supplies are required to complete the class.  Without them you may be unable to undertake the project.

NOTE: The class fee includes any material costs passed on to the student.  The costs may include, but are not limited to, the working surface, surface preparation, paint, stencils, plasters, tools, printed materials, table covering, plastic floor covering, water change out, and shipping costs.

Tips To Make Your Convention Experience ROCK!

  • Checked luggage - pack your art supplies in a plastic Glad container and put a label on it identifying yourself as an artist, stating that these are your tools, in the event your luggage is examined during a spot check.
  • Pack plastic skirt hangers to use for drying sample boards.  Pack wax paper to place between sample boards for shipping.
  • Get more in your suitcase by rolling your clothes.  Stuff your socks inside your shoes.
  • Organize supplies for each class into zip-lock bags and label.  Bring a small container of Murphy’s oil soap; at the end of class put a few drops on your brushes and drop them in a zip-lock bag to store until you can clean them.
  • Consider how many and the size of samples you will be making.  Pack a large enough suitcase or bring a collapsed shipping box.  You can fit 10-72 boards inside, then tape around all edges for mailing….remember to pack the tape.
  • Bring address labels to slap on every mailing list you encounter at the Expo.  Use these for identifying your sample boards.
  • Remember to bring your confirmation notice of classes.  It is your ticket to enter class.
  • Stay hydrated.  Bring a refillable water bottle.  Keep snacks and energy bars on hand.
  • Dress in layers.  You never know what temperature the classroom will be.
  • Save money by rooming with a fellow painter.  Email Margaret (krushm@sbcglobal.net) if you wish to find a roommate to share a room and fun!
  • Silence your cell phone during class and be sure to ask your instructor before taking photos.  Photos are never permitted in the Expo Hall without a Media Pass.
Relax, have a Good Time, SMILE and say Hello to fellow painters!
