IDAL Instructor Biography

Barb Skivington

Barb Skivington is the Director of Education & Technical Support for Unfolded, a distributor for Annie Sloan and her world famous Chalk Paint®, and trains Annie’s Stockists throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Barb has spent much of her life pursuing her passion for artistic creations.  In 1995 she founded Faux Works, a world-class instructional studio located in High Point, North Carolina, where she taught a wide spectrum of faux and decorative finishes for walls, furniture, and cabinetry to both the novice and professional finisher.  She has trained both in the United States and Europe with some of the top finishers in the industry and continues to maintain a creative edge by investing her time into classes, seminars, and virtual workshops where she explores new uses for paints and other materials.

Barb’s brushes and trowels have taken her to locations throughout North America. as well as Europe, Northern Africa, and Australia.  Her work has appeared in several books and magazines, including Better Homes and Gardens Decorative Paint Techniques, Renovation Style, Paint Décor, and Southern Living. At home Barb follows a “modernize and simplify” mantra, mixing a sophisticated array of contemporary classics, antique Asian furnishings, modern artwork, and African primitives against a backdrop of luxuriously waxed Venetian plasters, authentic Italian Marmorino, and other unique textural finishes.

Barb strives to create an environment where her students feel relaxed and encouraged to express their creative side.
